Monday Art Group with Tess Edwards

Monday Workshop with Tess Edwards runs every Monday, all day (10am - 4pm), and is an open access day, where you can do your creative thing, whatever that may be, with as much or as little supervision/tuition as needed.  The main accent is on self expression, experimentation, creativity and play.  This can take place wherever your technical and artistic maturity level allows. Each person has their own path to follow, and this individuality is respected and nurtured.  We try to keep this workshop toxic-free, meaning no acid, turps etc.  however, this is not a rule, but a preference. Emphasis is on works on paper, incorporating monotypes, collage, painting, drawing, linocut, collographs, or a combination of any of the above. The work is a vehicle for self expression, without being pure therapy! The end result is about learning and growing rather than producing masterpieces, even though we have witnessed plenty of wonderful results over the last year.
We are also planning a series of talks and discussion sessions on a number of subjects, eg

1.  What makes an artist? Is this an attitude, a level of technical competence, a public consensus, a professional status, an ABN....?  Tess will talk about all these aspects and more, encouraging your questions and discussion.

2. "Metaphysical Fishing"  Tess will give an illustrated talk about her own artistic journey, inviting discussion and questions relating to your own personal journey.

3. "Therapy and Art"  We will discuss the role art plays in therapy and the role therapy plays in art. Where does the boundary lie? Who decides ? Tricky sticky questions to get our heads around. Or is it important?

4. "George Baldessin and the history of the Baldessin Press"  Tess will talk about the art and life of her late husband George Baldessin and how and why the Baldessin Press started.

These will take place at 2pm on some Mondays (to be decided), and are included in the normal fee. This is an open forum and you are welcome to suggest a topic or lead a discussion yourself.

Bring your materials, and some lunch to share.
Cost is $160 for 4 day sessions, to be used during the term*, or $50 per individual day.
As this workshop is open-ended, you are not obliged to commit to regular attendance.

*Terms as in Vic State School Terms, although we will run through the school holidays without a break.  Certain Mondays may have to be canceled, (which is why you need to book in advance!).
